OK, so we know that there’s the small matter of the XXXIII Olympic Games taking place in Paris this July, but for the sport-ready team at Applied we’ve all pre-qualified for our very own mini Olympics to mark an equally important milestone - our 25th anniversary.
And away from the cutting edge of digital marketing, our team of MacBook Olympians do actually have some discernible form in various physical pursuits - from golfing and swimming to climbing, running, boxing and cycling.
So, we’re going to spend the 19 days of the Paris Olympics doing our own pared down version, which will convert our physical exertions into funds for Kirkwood Hospice. This local charity is close to our hearts and does incredible work supporting patients and their families at a challenging time in their lives.
There’s even an Applied Olympics Website
We’ve also developed a dedicated Applied Olympics website where we can plot our individual progress, and our followers can see how we’re doing too. Paul in our web development team has pulled this one together for us, and it’s a great way for all of us to see each other’s progress - we’re not going to be competitive about it, honest!
Sadly, there are no Olympic facilities outside our Huddersfield HQ - so we’re doing this in our respective neighbourhoods.
Here’s the team line up, with their chosen “athletic” disciplines:
Jenny - Swimming: Peri-menopausal woman doing her best to look glamorous in a swimming cap and goggles (unfortunately photography is strictly forbidden in the pool area - thank goodness 🤣)
Mike - Golfing: With a swing once described as an octopus putting up a deck chair
Jacob - Gym: “I’m coming for you Eddie Hall”
Paul - Running: “How hard can fast walking really be?”
Connor- Climbing: Small man tries to climb a big wall.
Tom - Cycling: Middle aged man in lycra gets ready to turn those winter miles into summer smiles
Richard - Cycling: “Round the Vale of York, one of the flattest parts of the country. Expect a maximum 10m inclination. No lycra!”
